New study shows ALL types of Olive Oil can reduce the risk of heart disease
It has often been said that Extra Virgin Olive Oil is better for our health than Refined Olive Oil. Not true, or so says a new 6 week study featured on BBC TV’s Trust Me, I’m A Doctor’ programme. The study used 70 volunteers, split into two groups; Group A drank 20ml of raw Extra Virgin Olive Oil per day, Group B drank 20ml of raw Refined Olive Oil every day.
The average measure of coronary artery disease for both groups fell significantly at both 3 weeks, and again at 6 weeks after taking the olive oil.
The results indicated that both the Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Refined Olive Oil had exactly the same beneficial effect “ the significant reduction in the presence of coronary heart disease fingerprints’.
(The fall in heart disease markers seen in volunteers taking extra virgin olive oil (red) and ‘normal’ olive oil (green) over 6 weeks. (The CAD score is a score of coronary artery disease where -1 is completely healthy and 1 is symptomatic disease)
