Reducing the Risks of Cancer
Medical studies have made a positive link between olive oil and breast and bowel cancer, when used as part of a healthy diet
and lifestyle.
Researchers in the USA* found that oleic acid, the main fatty acid in olive oil, appears to significantly reduce the risk
of developing breast cancer. In laboratory tests on breast cancer cells, the acid was shown to cut levels of a gene thought
to trigger the disease.
A study by a team from Barcelona in Spain** concluded that their research suggests that using olive oil in the diet may
help prevent development of bowel cancer. The team believe that the potentially protective effect is due to sqaulene,
flavonoids and polyphenols - all antioxidants found in olive oil.
